LIA I Years 2020: Traces of Spice Culture in the Archipelago

Anthropology Study Program and Anthropology Students, Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University held the Anthropology Scientific Contest (LIA) for the first time at the national level. LIA consists of several series of activities, including: workshops, competitions, and seminars on results. The three series are the collaboration between Anthropology Udayana University and the Bali Provincial Cultural Values Preservation Center (BPNB Provinsi Bali), the Indonesian Anthropology Kinship Network (JKAI), the Association of Indonesian Anthropology Departments/Major (ADJASI), and the Indonesian Anthropology Association (AAI).


LIA I activity began with the workshop "Improving Scientific Writing Competence" on August 3, 2020 by presenting two resource persons who were competent in writing reputable journal articles and experience as judges and guiding students to take part in PKM (Student Creativity Program) to the Pimnas (Scientific Week level National Student). The two resource persons are Dr. Pande Made Kutanegara, M.Sc. (UGM Anthropology Lecturer/Assistant Lecturer for PKM UGM and Pimnas 2019) and Dr.rer.nat. I Wayan Karyasa, S.Pd., M.Sc. (Lecturer at Ganesha University of Education/Jury Pimnas). On that occasion, the moderator who guided the workshop was Ida Bagus Oka Wedasantara, S.Sos. (Udayana University of Anthropology Alumni), where this national event was attended by 305 participants from various universities throughout Indonesia. LIA activity was then continued with a scientific article competition which was held from 4 - 17 August 2020, judging on 19 - 26 August 2020, and the announcement of the winner on 28 August 2020. The competition raised the theme "Record of Spices Culture in the Archipelago" with total prizes amounting to IDR 9.000.000, where the competition was attended by 48 participants from anthropology students from various universities in Indonesia which were won by three main winners and three hopeful winners, as follows:


1st Place Amelia Rahima Sari (Anthropology Airlangga University) Score 8.60

2rd Ni Nyoman Era Jumantini (Anthropology Udayana University) Score 8.00

3rd Lut Fadila (Anthropology Andalas University) Score 7.93

Runner Up 1st Adinda Febriana Putri P. (Anthropology Halu Oleo University) Score 7.90

Runner Up 2rd Haganta (Anthropology Indonesia University) Score 7.75

Runner Up 3rd Muhammad Satok Yusuf (Archeology Udayana University) Score 7.70


The winners of First, Second, and Third Winners then became resource persons in the last series of LIA activities, namely the Results Seminar on 2 September 2020 attended by 150 participants. Amelia Rahima Sari presented the material "Pletok Beer: Spicy Drinks as Acculturation of Betawi and Dutch Cultures", while Ni Nyoman Era Jumantini presented material entitled “Loloh Base: Local Wisdom-Based Feminine Therapy with Archipelago Spice Concoction”; and Lut Fadila presented a material entitled “Traditional Medicine Rituals Among Modern Medicine Practices”. Results Seminar activities can be viewed again at the following youtube link: https://youtu.be/wAMsjc8RlPw.
