Norwegian Students Enthusiastically Follow the Simulation of the Ogoh-Ogoh Procession Tradition at Udayana University

(Denpasar/21/03/2025) - A total of 10 students from Norway, who are part of the Social Anthropology program at Udayana University, had the opportunity to experience the Ogoh-Ogoh parade tradition first hand as part of a series of Nyepi Day celebrations. The event took place at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences from 17:00 to 18:00 WITA and was attended by anthropology students from Udayana University.

The activity started with a presentation on the celebration of Hari Raya Pangrupukan in Bali. The students were introduced to the concept and meaning behind this tradition before participating directly in the Ogoh-Ogoh procession. The students were also given the opportunity to learn and play the traditional Balinese musical instrument, the Tek-Tekan, which is commonly used in the Ogoh-Ogoh procession.

Enthusiasm could be seen from the Norwegian students who enthusiastically played the Tek-Tekan musical instrument and participated in the Ogoh-Ogoh procession around the Faculty of Cultural Sciences environment. This activity was a real experience for them to understand Balinese culture not only in theory but also through direct practice.

The coordinator of the anthropology program, Mrs. Aliffiati, S.S., M.Si., expressed her full support for this activity. "Through this event, we want to introduce international students to Balinese culture more deeply, not only through theory in the classroom, but also through direct involvement in local traditions," she said.

This activity received a positive response from both local and international students. They felt that they had gained valuable experience in understanding how local culture is practiced in daily life. With programs like this, it is hoped that there will be a closer cultural exchange between Indonesian and international students. (-nhw/)
